HIOD Character Sketchdump: Adrian Wilder

Description

Hell Is Other Demons is an adult story about a city where demons have blended in among humans.

Second character dump, following that first one with Glenn. Didn't think it'd be so much longer than Glenn's, but I suppose introducing the first demon and the way they're characterized in this universe calls for extra detail. The main cast is united mostly by setting, since there's nine tenants divided among three apartments in the same complex. Two ladies share one apartment, four men share a second and the third is rented out by Adrian, plus the humans Glenn and Meg Kato.

Characters are still being fleshed out, but Glenn and Adrian are easily the most developed at this point which is why I've uploaded them first. Even Meg requires a little more work, but she's getting there.

Adrian can be summed up as...
+ Sociable and fun-loving
+ Persistent in the face of adversity
+ Firm in his beliefs, but accepting of alternative points of view
- Short-tempered and openly aggressive when pushed
- Poor understanding of risk versus reward
- Mischievous, snarky sense of humor can be misinterpreted easily

Obviously "Adrian Wilder" isn't this guy's birth name considering he comes from hell, not from earth. His birth name is Arioth Vayadi, which only comes up if he needs to return to hell for some reason. On earth, all the demons in the main apartment complex (except for Aldur, which will be more obvious when we get to him) use the aliases to refer to each other. You could reason it's for Glenn's benefit since some of the names are difficult for an English speaker... Considering other examples include "Tirtciops Awthax" and "Sibwan Ixciönt," Adrian's birth name is probably the easiest to say. =P

The lesser ogre was pretty easy to come up with for the most part. It was inspired in part by the imps from Doom, but with the unique horns and protruding bones which came to me surprisingly fast. It was the face I struggled with the most, in trying to find the right balance between human and inhuman. The nose ended up being mostly flat, a trait which I tried to mirror in Adrian's chosen disguise form. The spiked-up hair was also supposed to mirror the lesser ogre's unique horns, and the bushy eyebrows, big sideburns and moderate amount of body hair made for a good contrast with the ogres' nature as hairless mammals.

Things I'm still not so sure about in Adrian's development include the job field. Auto repair seems like it might be a good fit for him and Corbin the ifrit to make use of their electrical and fiery magic, but I'm not sure on making it official because it's certainly not writing what I know (as of the date I submitted this, I still don't even have a driver's license :XD:). I'm also trying to find more ways to make his personality distinct from Glenn's while keeping it consistent and close enough to play off Glen well. Thoughts and suggestions?
